Two of our Shan University Students Graduated at Ramkhamheng University, Thailand

The graduated ceremony is holding on 4 - 8, March, 2013 at Rangkhamheng University, Bangkok, Thailand.

There are many Shan students from Shan State studying at Ramkhamheng University. There are both individual and scholarship students. There are over thirty thousands students graduate in this year 2013. There are some graduated with B.A and some M.A. There are many Shan students who were graduated including two of our SUS members.

Shan university students hold the 2nd Seminar on Interchange of New Knowledge

Bangkok, Thailand: On Saturday, February 23, 2013, Shan university students in Bangkok held the seminar on “Interchange of New Knowledge: The Significant Key to Sustainable Identity Language and Religion.” This was the second seminar of the Shan university students held at Wat Srisudaram Voraviharn, Mahachulalongkorn University, the first one being held on 15 January 2011.

The objectives of the seminar are to strengthen networking among Shan universities students, migrant workers in Bangkok, Thailand, to help with one another, to exchange knowledge in the aim of benefits for nation, language and religion.

On this occasion, Ven. Maha Panya, a PhD candidate at Assumption University made a presentation entitled “Education for the twenty-first Century.” While Ven. Panya Pawkha, a PhD candidate at Mahidol University had a talk entitled “Drawing Assessment of educational experiences Between Burma and Foreign Countries: based on two decades’ experiences.” Nang Hseng Noon, A M.A. candidate at Rangsit University and representative from Shan University Students-Bangkok (SUS) spoke about “Preparation for studying abroad.” In addition, Sai Long, a technology specialist and PhD candidate at Mahidol University talked about “The Current Uses of Technology.”

There were a number of participants joined the seminar which included Shan University Students-Bangkok (SUS), Shan Youth Network, Toom Ton Tai Group, Mong Jid Group, and Phradhammaseng Foundation as well as Tai Sangha University Students Association.

This event was organized by Tai Sangha University Students Association with the support of and in close cooperation with the Shan communities.

On February 3, 2013, Shan University students (SUS) organized the meeting at Assumption
University in Bangkok, Thailand.

The objectives of the meeting are to have the strengthen network and friendship of people
in Bangkok and gradually expand to whole Thailand. Moreover, the participants also talked
about to address the challenges that Shan communities are facing and draft salutations in
respond to them. They are also discussed the problem or challenges of education, media,
politic and health. After that they are drafting collaborate future action plans.

Sai Nyunt Lwin General Secretary of the Shan Nationalities League for Democracy (SNLD)
is a special guest in the meeting. He came to join the meeting a few hours. He gave a short
speech to encourage students to try the best for study.

Sai Nyunt Lwin said that “Education is very important for the future. We need to promote
everything in our country such as doctors, nurse, police, journalist, politic and engineer etc.
All of you who have education should go back and help to promote our country after you
complete your education.”

Sai Nyunt Lwin is in Thailand since 17 January to have his hernia and piles operated. He
decided to go back to Burma today.

Rangsit University International College

Rangsit University is one of leading private universities in Thailand, with international standard, and
also it has many western professors, some Thai professors are high qualified, because they hold degree from abroad. RIC Faculty is international college, which the courses run only in English, as there are international and local students.

Myanmar at Rangsit University

There are approximately 40 Myanmar students including 5 Shan who are currently studying. Students from Myanmar study in the program of Communication Art (Com Art), Politics, Philosophy and Economics (PPE), Information Communication and Technology (ICT), and International Relations and Development (IRD).

This amount of tuition fees is only for scholarship students. Mostly, Myanmar students get scholarship or tuition fee waiver 40% -50% from RIC. Without tuition fee waiver the fees are approximately THB 160,000.

Living expense, Food, and Rental cost in the environment of the Rangsit University

As the demand of Rangsit University students’ total numbers are growing, apartment rental costs nearby the university are very expensive year by year than other places. Single room is 3,900 Baht, not include electricity, water, and internet fees. Shared room is 4,900 baht without electricity, water, and internet fees. Internet fee is very expensive 750 baht for a month. But if we live nearby university, we can access university Wi-Fi.

Food cost is also expensive. Let say 30-40 Baht per meal for the fast food. Alternatively, we can purchase vegetables and raw meat nearby market to cook, it would cheaper.
